We drove another 30 mins East to Kinabangtan River for some wildlife river trips.

Being spanners 🤦🏻‍♂️🙈  we didn’t have enough  cash with us for the trips….   Borneo takes cards nearly everywhere  (whereas cards were hardly ever accepted in the Philippines ) so we’d got complacent….   We had a nap then drove an HOUR back to where we’d come from to an ATM !!!  On the plus side- we had some lovely Malay/Indian food. The restaurant started to get very busy and people’s food arrived at their tables but just sat there going cold……  strange we thought eating ours, then bang on 6.20 everyone tucked in aka end of Ramadan daytime……..Some willpower to sit there with your food and drinks in front of you when you haven’t been able to consume anything since sunrise!!

Next day was another sunrise !!   Wait 4 months for 1 and 2 come along 👀

6AM on the river, nice and cool

This time for the river cruise where we saw , eagles, kingfishers, crocs, monkeys, snake head birds, monitor lizards and more, it was amazing.

Big croc

So much so, we found ourselves on the 4pm tour where we saw loads of different monkeys at REALLY close quarters 👀🐒 truly amazing.

Awww  cute baby 🐒
100’s of swift’s nesting on a rock just above high tide mark
Apparently, they taste delicious,  Pete definitely not keen to try them
Proboscis monkey and his chilli 🌶

So much so we found ourselves on the 7.30pm tour !!!   Tbf our guide (JD) was so good at spotting all the animals we felt compelled to go on all the trips as you never knew what might be in store 🥰🔭   Owls 🦉, kingfishers and bats as it goes.

Silence, apart from the hum of the cicadas
Full Moon on the river

We decided not to get up at sunrise for the third morning in a row, and JD came back stating they’d seen a mum and baby oragutan.  Typical!

Today it’s back in the car to move to pastures new.
