So it was back along our favourite road πŸ™„πŸ‘€πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈonce again,  just for good measure we stopped at the ATM, once bitten twice shy…….   topped up with fuel we arrived back at Sepilok mid afternoon and booked onto the night walk at the rainforest experience nearby. Chilled by the pool with a different kinda satay, rice soup thing bought from a stall at the end of the road.

Then at 4.30 we drove the 6km to the night Market stalls and bought some lovely (and cheap ) malay food.

Street food haul πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Then it was off for the night walk. This started on their tree canopy trail, which was thankfully made of metal unlike the last bouncy one that tested our nerves.

The highlight of the walk was getting to see 2 flying squirrels leave their nest and glide themselves over to neighbouring trees 😍   truly amazing to watch. Nature’s evolution at its finest.

Next day we started the long, bumpy drive back West.  Somehow it didn’t seem as bad as when we drove East the week before.  So either the brain was more conditioned to it or more likely due to it being Saturday and there being less trucks to have to pass………    I still saw the closest thing to someone getting killed though, millimetres between a moped and a 4×4 that was being too brave.

Entering a village I recognised from the heading east drive, I turned off and headed straight for the same Indian for more Roti πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹  Janet thinks I’m going to turn into a Roti……..

As we were nearing our accommodation we stopped at Sabah tea plantation for an ice cream ( it’s still bloody hot & humid here ) and a view of Mt Kinabalu. The mountain remained shrodded by clouds as per the last time we passed by 😭

MT Kinabalu hiding under the clouds,  it is 4,000m tall after all

The noise of the cicadas was deafening but beautiful.

We ate out at a Chinese food court, drove home with wipers on full speed through an absolute deluge  !!!!   And chilled outside the apartment with the cutest cat 🐈

Awww

Next morning we headed North through what has to be said was some amazing scenery πŸ‘Œ   the type that you visualise when you think of Borneo ( well and the wild man of Borneo ). Mountains covered in rainforest.  So wild and inhospitable looking,  you can almost imagine there’s still an un-found head hunting tribe out there.

Alot more civilised was the random Korean cafe we pulled up at for lunch. Great food, AC and a working toilet with toilet paper !!!!

Kimbap etc

An hour or so later we reached our accommodation just a few km south of Borneo’s most northern tip. We were treated to an amazing sunset over a cold beer and walked along the beach to find a restaurant ran by a lovely, chatty malay lady. She warned that it’d soon be jellyfish season, which made sense why we were both itchy after a 5 min  dip in the sea !!!!!!

Stunning welcome
Nice digs, with a lovely sea breeze πŸ˜ŽπŸ™
Yummy fish curry

Next day we walked around the northern most tip of Borneo,  which was pretty stunning 😍

We found a nice shaded bench and chilled for a while enjoying the cool, sea breeze.

The tip

Then drove to a cafe by a fishing lake we’d seen on the way up for lunch.  Treated ourselves and picked a fish for the chef to make a delicious fish curry, a side of veggies and 2 x rice, 2 x drinks = less than a tenner πŸ‘Œ

Another stunning sunset at ours, tinged by sadness as one of the chalet dogs nicked my brand new flip flop and gave it a bit of a mauling 😭😭😭😭

Next day we drove to 2 different beaches, which were beautiful.  Had a slightly stingy, colling dip in the sea and then lunch at the lake place.

Tea was a proper treat !   2 women staying at ours had it the night before and we were like “Where’s that on the menu” and they said they just fancied it and asked if it was possible πŸ€”   not like us shy brits…..   so we’d requested it early that morning – totally worth it !!!
